Two Extremely Bright Retired Software Engineers enjoying a moment on a boat. How long until one of them mounts a Raspberry Pi to the helm?
Reports suggest: not long.
Sources onboard say the conversation began innocently—with the weather, perhaps, or the ethics of autonomous winches—but quickly devolved into a whiteboard sketch on a napkin and someone muttering, “It’s just a prototype…”
By 14:00 hours, a waterproof Pelican case had emerged from the cabin, followed by a suspicious number of zip ties and the phrase, “Just for testing, not production.”
The other engineer, meanwhile, claimed he was “off the grid,” but was last seen writing shell scripts to optimize the GPS data stream.
The crew has expressed no alarm—yet—but did suggest turning off Wi-Fi “just in case the boat tries to update itself mid-tack.”
Stay tuned. The helm may be steering the boat, but who’s steering the engineers?
